Japanese person here. We in fact do have businesses that help you quit your job, called 退職代行 (I think they’re called resignation agency services in English?). They do all of the paperwork in your place, and you literally have to just wait. While I love living here and don’t really imagine myself going elsewhere, I do agree that our work culture is pure trash.

My friend in Japan was held against her will in a room without a cellphone or any of her belongings for several hrs, they searched her and her stuff to see if she was stealing anything just to punish her for resigning. She filed a complaint, and the company was severely fined, but she was left traumatized.

Also finding a job is PAINFUL in Japan as you have to “hand write” each application to hundreds of companies!

japan is good for tourism but not to work or live there (China is better for working and living than Japan)
