Things that worked for Google Maps favorably in its initial stages was their app on the AppStore and millions of iOS users reporting errors/issues which were resolved. In addition, Apple Maps had the disadvantage of choosing the wrong map data for use in their app which produced suboptimal mapping and routes which worked in favor or Google Maps adoption more.
